Siliba Theatre brings theatre to children in communities where there is little or no access to arts provision. Our productions tour to schools and theatres and are presented during school hours, so that our work reaches all children in a community, including those who have never visited a theatre or studied drama. We also run after school workshops for kids who want to take their acting skills feather.
We are an independent theatre company. We support ourselves, producing, and touring new plays that speaks and excite young people. However, we fundraise for activities that involve young people in our work and help them to get greater benefits from theatre.
This includes: Workshops to help children explore issues raised by our plays and link learning to other areas of their lives – Our T.I.E productions depict the problematic and difficult situations that children are faced with in life and present them in a format that’s right for young audiences.
Workshops led by actors make it possible for audience members to apply learning from the productions to their own lives.
Development programmes that help young playwrights create relevant, exciting new work for children – Siliba Theatre supports playwrights wanting to write for young audiences. We award seed commissions to young playwrights, hold conferences to exchange information about writing for young audiences, and set up workshops where playwrights get feedback from their target audience: children. We also give the chosen winner the opportunity to showcase their work.
Resources to support literacy development and creative learning – Our theatre productions make it possible for children to increase their literacy and connect with the arts in ways that boosts their learning overall. We support teachers and provide resources to link learning across the curriculum to our productions.
These activities are supported by trusts, corporate funders, and individuals like you.
Will you become one of our supporters? All contributions help and a number of small contributions can add up to provide a life changing experience for a child who would not have access to live theatre otherwise.
You can give to us by:
